The Tiffin University Jazz Summit

With a twenty-year history serving high school and college a cappella groups, jazz bands, vocal jazz ensembles, and contemporary music groups, Tiffin University's annual music festivals will continue this year with the return of the TU Jazz Summit on Friday, April 16. The event will take place virtually this year and will be presented in a purely educational, noncompetitive, positive and supportive environment, completely online, and at no cost to ensemble participants!! The day will divided into three sections that will include:
Real Time Coaching Sessions
Once you have completed and submitted your registration, we will schedule a specific time slot for your ensemble to meet virtually with one of our faculty/guest artists to receive feedback on your recording submission. Students and teachers will be able to ask questions in real-time and receive professionally guided instruction.
Interactive Clinics
Throughout the day, we will have scheduled live virtual clinics with our faculty and guest artists. Students and teachers in attendance will be able to ask questions and interact in number of topics that will include:
Performances
We will be airing performances by participating schools, TU ensembles, and our faculty and guest artists. The performances will be able to be viewable at any time by participating schools, so directors and students can access and watch as they are able.

2021 TU Jazz Summit Guest Artist & Faculty
Johannes Ronquillo, Bass
Johannes “J” Ronquillo is a freelance vocalist and electric/upright bassist currently residing in Toledo, Ohio. Son of a successful musician, he grew up in Manila, Philippines taking up the electric bass at age 12. At age 16, he moved to Toledo to study music performance at the University of Toledo, where he completed a Master's of Music degree in Jazz performance in 2016. J has since worked as a freelance musician in Manila and Ohio, and has performed with Sandra Viray, Niki Cabardo, Tonet Lipana, Paolo Cortez, Johnny Alegre, Tateng Katindig, Michael Puyat, Shun Kikuta and Wayan Balawan. He served as an adjunct professor of digital sound design at the Asia Pacific College in Makati, Philippines, and teaches privately in the Toledo area. He currently plays with the Bluewater Kings band, Crasherz Band, Jason Quick Trio, and Ramona Collins. The newest original project - Moses the Black - released their first album in early 2020. Drew Parent, Percussion/Drumset Drew is on staff at TU as the Director of Bands and Instructor of Percussion. He has been teaching and performing around the midwest for over fifteen years with regional jazz ensembles, orchestras, percussion ensembles and commercial music groups. He holds both music education and performance degrees from Saginaw Valley State University and Central Michigan University. |
Evan Whitted, Guitar Evan hails from the great state of having too many musical interests. He received his B.M. in Music Business at Millikin University, where he studied Classical Guitar, and his M.M. in Jazz Guitar from the University of Illinois. He has performed, recorded, and taught genres including: Rock, Jazz, Classical, and even a short stint as a Singer/Songwriter. He uses his varying musical background to be technically sound as well as aurally accessible to all listeners. |
